The Cape Floristic Region Partnership fulfils its functions through our coordination team, our partners and our working groups.
Integrated Fire and Invasive Alien Plant Working Group
This working group focuses on two of the most significant threats to biodiversity, water security and livelihoods: inappropriate fire regimes and invasive alien plants (IAPs). The work and outcomes of this group are aligned to relevant provincial and regional strategies and frameworks, including but not restricted to the Western Cape Provincial Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, the Western Cape Protected Areas Expansion Strategy, the Western Cape Biodiversity Spatial Plan and the Eastern Cape Biodiversity Conservation Plan.
Mission and Objective statement
Promote, enable and support integrated fire and invasive alien plant management at landscape to biome scale which embodies a philosophy to fire and invasive alien plant management that promotes the sensible use of fire for risk reduction and ecological function. The objectives of this working group are primarily strategic and catalytic but focus on facilitating management action that achieves the aims of the CFRP.
Invasive Alien Animal Working Group
This working group was established to enhance cooperation and synergy among stakeholders and implementing agents through strategic planning, monitoring progress and developing case studies to inform best practice of invasive alien animal species management in the Greater CFR. The working group will endeavor to monitor the impact of invasive alien species control operations based on information provided by implementing agents.
Mission and Objective statement
To provide a forum for the exchange of views on the means of implementing best practice in Invasive Alien Animal management, in order to facilitate and improve management of these species. The objectives include sharing knowledge, mobilising support, and identifying and prioritising research requirements and priority management interventions.
CFRP Research and Practice Gap Working Group
The Research and Practice Gap Working Group is dedicated to bridging the persistent gap between research and implementation in the realm of natural resource management/land use management, particularly within the context of the Cape Floristic Region. This group addresses the critical challenges that arise when research fails to inform practical land management actions effectively, or when land management practices lack sufficient scientific input.
Mission and Objective statement
The mission of the CFRP Research and Practice Gap Working Group is to find a more coordinated, collaborative and transformative way of working between researchers, practitioners and communities/beneficiaries in the landscape over the long-term with the aim of moving towards greater resilience and equity for all.
